Friends of the Fresno County Public Library is pleased to announce its partnering with comedian Paula Poundstone to raise funds for the library through a concert at the Tower Theater on Saturday, July 17. Paula Poundstone is a stand-up comedian known for her sardonic style and masculine fashion sense, She is an ardent supporter of Friends of the Library groups throughout the nation.

On your marks, get set, READ! The annual Summer Reading Program, one of the most popular events held during the year throughout the Fresno County Public Library System, will begin June 14th at each of the 31 branches throughout the county.

Robert Heers, an honors graduate of Edison High School was awarded the First Sunnyside FOL Scholarship. Robert is the son of Alan and Candi Heers, long-time residents of Sunnyside. Robert will be attending Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo in the fall, majoring in engineering. Robert was given a certificate on May 27, 2010 at the Edison High School Senior's Award Banquet. He was given a $500.00 check at the Sunnyside Property Owners' Summer Social event held on June 2, 2010. Congratulations Robert!
A new branch library opened on February 24 to bring much-needed services to residents in an urban neighborhood west of downtown Fresno. The West Fresno Branch Library is one of several county entities housed at the new West Fresno Regional Service Center at California and Walnut Avenues. The new library replaces the former Ivy Branch Library.
Fresno County’s library director, Karen Bosch Cobb, has announced her retirement after decades of public service to Valley patrons. Since March 2003 Bosch Cobb has served as both interim County Librarian and County Librarian. She will retire on April 1. An informal reception honoring Bosch Cobb will be held at the new West Fresno branch library on March 16 at 4 pm.

The Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Fresno County Library took place on Saturday, February 27th at the Holiday Inn in downtown Fresno. The business meeting started at 11:00am with Friends President, Dusty Guthier welcoming over 50 members in attendance. The minutes from the 2009 Annual meeting were reviewed and voted in. Board treasurer, Brandon McAvoy covered the organizations financial statement stating the organization was in a solid position.
